I am told that there is no fixed harvest season in Bali. In order to view the rice terraces at their most beautiful, there is no definite date!
If you arrive sometime before April, it's highly likely that you can view the paddy fields before harvest time in all its green splendor.
The first rice field terrace that we visited was Jatiluwih.

It is nestled among the hills, and provides a stunning panoramic view of the rice fields.
Unfortunately for us, the harvesting season was almost over. The view was no less stunning albeit a bit bare - it was like the hills were stripped naked, awaiting the next cycle of growth.

The plus side was we got to witness farmers harvesting the paddy. We could see bunches of golden rice stalks everywhere, arranged into neat little rows.

The friendly farmers even gave the gawking tourists (us) a stalk of rice as a small token! hahaha

Apart from Jatiluwih, we also made a detour at Tegallalang. It's far smaller than Jatiluwih but altogether a different place.

Tegallalang's rice terraces are located on a narrow valley and the view is magnificent!

There are small restaurants where one can dine while enjoying the view. Some souvenir stores are also found in the same area and the prices are substantially lower than those found in Kuta.

A visit to Bali won't be complete without viewing the lovely rice terraces. Authentic Bali at its best!
