March - April is the season of the calla lilies. This seems to be a big deal in Taiwan.
Although we did not manage to view sakura flowers in full bloom (as the cold weather forced spring flowers to bloom early this year), we were lucky to arrive in time to view calla lilies.
We started the 2nd day of our guided tour with a visit to Yangmingshan. Since there are no more sakura flowers to view, we headed straight for Zhuzi Lake, where all the lilies are!
A we stepped out of the car, we were greeted by a breathtaking view of calla lilies that covered the ground and extended all the way to the foot of the hills.
We were informed to keep to the pathway and avoid stepping through the gardens where you could touch the flowers, as those are actually lily-picking areas. To be had for a fee, of course.
Locating the pathway is pretty simple as there's only one. Just follow the signs.
Lily picking gardens were found all over the place. The area to explore was actually pretty big. But the chilly weather deterred us from venturing too far.
Being near Taipei, you'd expect Yangmingshan to be less... cold. We were in for a surprise!
Damn the wind was brutal. In hindsight, we should have been more well prepared...
Flowers, flowers, more flowers! You're in for a treat if you are a flower person.
Some fancier versions available for sale.
I still regret not having more time to explore the entire area.
And so we moved on to our next stop - also in the vicinity of Yangmingshan - 小油坑 Xiaoyoukeng.
How to go to Yangmingshan:
From Taipei Main Station, take bus 260. Yangmingshan is the last stop.
